The Old Cow Doc begins a new chapter

Hi! I'm new to this blogging thing, but I think I can manage!
I have been in my new job for just over 13 months now.
For almost 20 years I was a veterinarian in Eastern Kentucky. I had my own practice where I saw and treated dogs, cats, cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, ostrich's and just about any other of God's creatures. I refer to myself as a cow doc, because by temperament and inclination, I see the world more as a farmer would view life than one of the veterinarians on Emergency Vets. I practiced in a very rural area and most of my clients were not the wealthiest in the world, but they were wonderful people and brought much joy into my life.
Presently I am employed at a veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Western Kentucky. Veterinarians all across the state submit samples to us for testing. These samples may be any body fluids, tissues or even entire dead animals for necropsy. I love my job.
I am happily married for 17 years to Steve and have two wonderful sons, Vaughn, 12 and Joe, 10.
I decided to change directions in my career because, well, I know it sounds awful, but frankly I was bored. I was working 60-70 hours per week and running all the time with the boys, but it wasn't challenging to me anymore. The physical aspect was challenging, but mentally I was BLAH.
I am now working on a Masters in Public Health in addition to working and running with the boys. College sure has changed in the twenty years since I was maltriculating before!! But I really love being in the classroom again and being forced to THINK again.
That's all for today !
thanks for reading.

I'm not sure that I am "very cool"...I think that I am a pretty boring person, but thanks for saying that. I think this is pretty fun.

I got hear via Alissa. I am relatively new to blogging also. I started last October and find I am learning new things about it all the time.
Nice first post. I understand being bored with a job. I give you a lot of credit for going back to college and trying something new.

Hi, I'm Alissa's mom, and she recommended I visit your site. I understand going back to college after a while, too. I went back for my master's when my kids were in high school and middle school. I really enjoyed the challenge of being back in school, too.
